Job Summary

Prepare analysis of balance sheet, revenue, and expense accounts, assist in preparation of period end journal entries, prepare reconciliations for all bank accounts, maintain fixed assets, and assist in special projects assigned by the Controller.

Duties & Responsibilities as noted below. Other duties may be assigned at the discretion of management

Financial Closing Duties

  • Reconcile the company bank accounts in a timely manner.
  • Record and reconcile all period end accruals.
  • Maintain and record all monthly recurring entries.
  • Record and reconcile bank fees, interest income and interest expense.
  • Perform an initial review on all company balance sheet accounts and tie each account balance to its supporting schedule.
  • Review corporate and departmental financial statements for accuracy.
  • Analyze revenue and expense items to understand variances.
  • Ensure accuracy of balance sheet accounts at each period end.
  • Review departmental financial statements and recommend areas of improvement.

Sales/Use Tax Returns and Reports

  • File all required State returns.
  • File all required local / Parish jurisdictional returns.
  • Various other returns/reports as they become necessary.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensure that fixed assets are accurately accounted for and maintained using the fixed asset software Asset Keepers.
  • File all annual business licenses for the company.
  • File all annual personal property renditions for each branch.
  • Assist the Controller to ensure that adequate internal controls are in place throughout the organization and that they are properly documented and implemented.
  • Assist external auditors with year-end audit: analysis, documentation, etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of supporting tax return schedules and analysis.
  • Manage special projects assigned by the Controller.

  • Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in Accounting from an accredited four-year college or university. Entry level position; requires no related work experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with and to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced skills in utilizing Excel and Word. Must also be comfortable learning new technologies including business intelligence tools and operational management software.
  • Other Skills and Abilities: Well-developed analytical skills, critical thinking skills and communication skills. Must be able to work well with others throughout the operations of the business.
